Technology of Materials

Material Classification

Materials comprise of a wide range of metals and nonmetals, which must be processed to form a finished product. Materials are broadly classified based on their properties as metals and nonmetals. Metals are further classified as steel and cast iron based on its process of manufacture and iron content present. Steel, which is widely used on ships are further classified based on its iron contents and possess variation in properties and behavior for appropriate ship systems
